Zones of Regulation emotional check-in chart

This week, we dove into one of our most important life-skills lessons: understanding and regulating our emotions using The Zones of Regulation framework. Learning requires focus, energy, and emotional readiness. By teaching students to recognize their internal "color zone," we empower them to identify how they are feeling and use targeted coping tools to return to a state of calm, focused learning. This week we dove into one of our most important lessons of the year — understanding our feelings! We are learning this with the use of our classroom puppets Snort and Bunnycorn. When kids can identify how they feel, they can start to choose strategies that help them get back to a place where they're ready to learn and connect.

The Four Zones

  • 💙Blue Zone: feeling sad, tired, or sick — "I need a break"
  • 💚Green Zone: calm, happy, focused, and ready to learn — our goal zone!
  • 💛Yellow Zone: anxious, silly, or excited — "I might need a change"
  • ❤️Red Zone: overwhelmed or out of control — "I need to stop and reset"

Try at Home

Practice at home! Ask your child "what zone are you in right now?" and talk about what helps them feel calm and ready.
